Bodø lies in Nordland county in Northern Norway. The town of Bodø is the administrative centre of both the municipality and the county. Bodø is located just north of the Arctic Circle, on a peninsula between Vestfjorden and Saltfjorden. It is the largest urban area in Nordland county, and considered the second-largest city in Northern Norway.

On the map

Geographically, Bodø covers the western part of the peninsula between Sørfold and Saltfjorden / Skjerstadfjorden, as well as fjord and mountain areas to the south and west, including islands to the west of the town. It borders several neighbouring municipalities (e.g. Fauske, Beiarn, Gildeskål).
